Anthony Walker memorial prize
The top Champions of Respect Award is dedicated to the memory of Anthony Walker from Liverpool who was tragically murdered in July 2005. Anthony was a committed Christian and youth leader at an Evangelical Alliance member church, Grace Family Church, in Liverpool. A tribute website has been set up in memory of Anthony at www.anthonywalker.org.uk. Mrs Gee Walker has presented this award each year.
The 2006 winner of the Anthony Walker Memorial Prize is Luke Clifford, honoured for setting up 'Regenate Kenya' and for initiating the building of a garage in Nakuru, Kenya to enable young people to gain employment and support themselves and their families. Last year’s winner of the Anthony Walker Memorial Prize, Gemma Gibson, was honoured for helping to set up a local radio station that only plays songs with a positive message. She says, “Knowing that this award commemorates Anthony Walker, who died so tragically, really inspired me. I just hope I can continue to do this work and continue to impact communities.”
The Anthony Walker case has been widely reported. Anthony’s mother, Mrs Gee Walker, has made statements about the forgiveness of the two men that murdered Anthony. More details about these statements can be found on the Evangelical Alliance pages at www.eauk.org/media/mrs-walker.cfm |
